Ever wonder how I choose a title for my abstract artwork?
I usually choose a name for my abstracts near the end of the painting process because I paint intuitively without any pre-planning. I study the composition and see what it suggests to my subconscious mind. In this case the shapes suggested long stalks with seed pods on top, like a thistle plant. Then the name Triffids came to me unexpectedly from a memory of a book I read as a teenager. “Day of the Triffids” was a 1951 post- apocalyptic novel by the English science fiction author John Wyndham. After most people in the world are blinded by an apparent meteor shower, an aggressive species of plant starts killing people. ...That's just the way my mind works.
The book was also made into a feature film, three radio drama series, and two TV series!
